Smart Phones as the Next Frontier?

An interesting article from the Wall Street Journal compares the market share and profit share of a few major handheld manufacturers. Surprise surprise- Apple and RIM both have extremely high profit/market share ratios, accounting for 35% of the industry’s profits from just 3% of industry market share.

Apple iPhone
Apple’s iPhone has revolutionized the smart phone industry.

I’m a big supporter of the school that says statistics can be molded to say whatever you want: It’s fairly obvious that cost does not scale linearly with increase in function- at some point the curve flattens out, mostly when you stop adding hardware features (that require more components) and start adding software features (App Store, anyone?). KeePassX- Password Manager

New on MakeTechEasier; Safe Guard Your Password with KeePassX.

This program is one of my latest open-source discoveries.  It’s a free password manager with almost all of the features of commercial programs like 1Password.  Well worth investigating if you are looking for such an application.

Review: June 2009 Macbook Pro

The June 2009 unibody Macbook Pros feature an internal battery and SD card reader to go along with minor spec upgrades.

Temporary delay in M365…

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to achieve my original goal of 365 straight days reviewing a piece or movement each day. My computer was recently stolen, so I’m busy trying to get things back in order. If anyone sees a 2006 Macbook Pro with the serial number W86230Z5WBH on the street in Lausanne, Switzerland or on eBay/Craigslist, let me know and I’d be eternally grateful. Things should be more normal hopefully by this weekend. Thanks for your understanding!

Macrumors forum member r.j.s. is in the process of producing a useful series of OS X Tutorial videos.  So far, they cover:

They’re very well done, and sometimes it’s nice to see something done rather than read a step-by-step guide. If you’re a forum member, you can make suggestions in the proper thread.
