The Hunt for Gollum- Open Source Movies?
One of the most unusual open-source projects I’ve come across in recent times, The Hunt for Gollum is what amounts to an open source Lord of the Rings fan film. It is not being made for profit, actors, producers, and crew were not paid, and is being produced “solely for the personal, uncompensated enjoyment of ourselves and other Tolkien fans.”
The trailers, even in low definition on my crappy internet connection in my apartment, look incredible. They even found actors that approximate their more famous counterparts in the New Line Cinema versions.
I’m really curious as to how the final version is going to turn out. At 45 minutes long, it’s a lot more manageable than the 3 hours and 6 different endings I endured in Return of the King. Only a few more hours until it’s released!
