Fun with Google Trends
The other day I played around with Google’s “Trend” experiment for a while and thought it was really neat. You enter a search term and it shows how many searches for that term occurred over a given period of time (a few years). It’s still a little rough- for example, the coarse-graining doesn’t show a lot of detail when you decrease the time scale- but it’s still fun to see the patterns. Here are some that I put in the other day.
Politics



Science
The fearmongers were hard at work in the fall of ‘08…


Apparently the dead of winter is the wrong time to be crying about global warming. Also… everyone likes the summer.


Economy
These were a little depressing, but not surprising I guess.



Entertainment
Newsflash to the RIAA: Your strategy isn’t working.


This one was a little puzzling; why are Brahms and Beethoven less popular in the summer? There’s hardly a better hour to be spent than listening to Beethoven’s Ninth under the sun…


Miscellaneous
I thought these two would be different than they actually are:


Conclusion: if we are serious about increasing fuel efficiency, jack up the price of gas.
